The adorable, big-eyed, steady, low-to-the-ground kind who steals hearts on sight. Mater is a 14-year-old Haflinger gelding, standing a handy 14 hands. He’s thick, sturdy, and easy to get on and off of...confidence-boosting without being tall or intimidating - but plenty stout and wide enough to tote most sized riders. He is sweet, kind, and genuinely gentle, he’s the type you can turn out for months, grab, tack up, and go enjoy a peaceful ride like no time has passed. Under saddle, Mater is a joy: walks, trots, lopes, catches both leads, has a nice stop, and guides around softly and easily. He’s smooth-gaited, comfortable in traffic, and confident enough to trail ride alone, yet also no-drama and just as happy riding with a group. He’s been used for riding lessons, is calm and forgiving, and makes riders feel safe and capable. Care-wise, they don't get less complicated. No maintenance, easy keeper, lives outside happily but is also relaxed in a stall. Great feet and legs, sound, easy for the vet and farrier, good ground manners, and loads/unloads like a pro. He’s happy alone, happy in a herd, and adapts effortlessly to new routines. Mater has a well-rounded background: earlier years in a small Pony Club/eventing program (English, lower-level dressage and jumping), more recently ridden Western for recreational riding. He’s also been around cattle - not spooky, willing to push them around if needed.
